Rock Steady Crew is an American breaking and hip hop group which has become a franchise name for multiple groups in other locations. The group's 1983 international hit song '(Hey You) The Rock Steady Crew' (from the group's first studio album Ready For Battle) peaked at No. 6 in the UK Singles Chart,[1] and reached the Top 10 in many European countries. Members of Rock Steady Crew featured in the films Flashdance and Beat Street, which ignited international interest in the b-boy subculture.[2]

History[edit]

The featured breakdancers/B-Boys, and the true highlight of the night, were the Rock Steady Crew, whom Holman had acted as manager/agent for a year or so at that point. Wanting to see a real B-Boy battle, played out for a Downtown audience - something even Holman hadn't witnessed yet - Holman asked Crazy Legs, Rock Steady's leader, to find. Crazy Legs is currently the president of the Rock Steady Crew. 2) The name Rock Steady Crew was created after a dance called 'The Rock.' 3) Rock Steady Crew was featured in hip-hop movies such as 'Wild Style' and 'Beat Street.' 4) In 1981, New York City's Lincoln Center hosted a breaking battle between Dynamic Rockers and Rock Steady Crew.
